Frequently Asked Questions
How did the Floresville Peanut Festival begin?
It began July 29, 1938, when prominent businessmen in Floresville decided there needed to be a
festival in honor of the farming and harvesting season of the peanut. These men designated the
celebration as the "Floresville Peanut Pow-Wow." This "Pow-Wow" was to be held in the courthouse
square, where it continues to be held today. The name was changed in August 1938 to the
Floresville Peanut Festival.
When was the 1st festival held?
The first festival was held on the courthouse square in downtown Floresville in October 1938.
It was well received by all the citizens of Floresville, Wilson County and South Central Texas.
What is the purpose of the festival?
The purpose of the festival is to produce a grand celebration to recognize the importance of the peanut to the
Southwest Texas agriculture, although it is now an endangered crop in the area, and to celebrate the farming and
harvesting of the peanut in the Wilson County area. The association is proud to provide scholarships for the young

Where does the money go that the association raises during events and the festival?
The Association uses the money to pay for the expenses of the organization throughout the year.
Additionally the money is used for preparing items, booking bands and other entertainment for the
next years festival. The festival is not able to donate money to any organizations because the
Association is not a 501(c)3, it is a 501(c)4.
How does an organization get involved with the Association?
The Association is always eager for more individuals and organizations to become members. The only
thing needed is a letter, on letterhead, from the respected organization stating they would like to
become a member with a certain designated Director to sit on the Board. An alternate that is active
in the organization is also requested to be on the letter just in case the Director is not able to
come to a meeting. If an individual would like to become a board member, he/she is to contact anyone
on the executive board to discuss their appointment.
